Creating Characters: The Heart of Storytelling

Character? As author’s we create characters. Some are characters we love and some are characters we love to hate. But isn’t that the point? One to root for, cheer to cross the finish line, and exceed against all odds. One to despise and be frustrated with, wish they didn’t give the one you’re cheering for, that you may identify with such a hard time.

I do have a favorite. Maybe because I created this character and have spent so much time developing his story. Devin, the main character in “Lake with One Thousand Eyes” the first book in my middle grade adventure/mystery series. In spite of revisions, edits and rewrites, Devin still is the one to cheer for, the one to care about the outcome of the story.

I created a vision board of sorts that hangs in my artist studio a long time ago. Since I know the photo was copyrighted I searched for a close second. Meet Devin – the character created for my first middle grade novel to be released in 2025.
